Brighton Charity 5-A-Side Football Tournament

WEDNESDAY 5TH AUGUST | STANLEY DEASON LEISURE CENTRE, BRIGHTON

BrightLocal (team 1) Crowned Champions as Business Fives Returns to Brighton

Business Fives returned to Brighton on Wednesday 5th August for another fantastic afternoon of football, networking and fundraising, bringing together businesses from across the city for a competitive and enjoyable tournament.

A special congratulations goes to BrightLocal (team 1), on lifting the Champions League trophy, but also finished as the event’s Top Fundraisers along with their colleagues from Brightlocal (team 2), raising an outstanding £633 for Medical Aid for Palestine. Their efforts both on and off the pitch made for a memorable day.

The group stages were packed with quality football, with Hyve Managed Hosting & Chubb making an early statement by topping their respective groups, while BrightLocal Team 1 and Electric Square produced strong performances.

Following the group phase, the competition split into the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, setting up an exciting finish to the afternoon.

In the Champions League, BrightLocal (Team 1) overcame their colleagues in Brightlocal (team 2) in the quarterfinals before defeating Chubb in a closely contested semi-final. They then met Hyve Managed Hosting in a thrilling final that couldn’t be separated in normal time, with BrightLocal holding their nerve to win on penalties and lift the Brighton title.

Their victory also secured a £350 donation to Medical Aid for Palestine, while Hyve Managed Hosting were excellent throughout the tournament and finished as worthy runners-up.

The Europa League saw Electric Square bounce back strongly after their Champions League exit, progressing to the final where they edged past Tillo to claim the trophy and secure a £150 donation for Special Effect.

In the Europa Conference League, Genting Casinos produced another composed performance to overcome Chubb in the final and lift the trophy, rounding off a successful day for the team.

Individual honours recognised some outstanding displays across the tournament. Marlon Perrin of Hyve Managed Hosting finished as Top Goalscorer, while teammate Roberto “Bertie” Bello claimed the Golden Glove after an excellent tournament between the posts. Female player of the tournament went to Beth Tyrrell, who showed some great technical ability as well as determination to get stuck into a challenge or two. The Player of the Match in the Final award went to Jack Williams of BrightLocal (Team 1), whose performance proved instrumental in helping his side secure the title.

A special thank you goes to former Brighton & Hove Albion defender and one-club man Kerry Mayo, who joined us as guest speaker. Kerry shared great stories from his career before presenting the awards and helping round off another memorable Business Fives event.

A huge well done to every team who took part in another brilliant afternoon of football, networking and fundraising. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Brighton for the next Business Fives event.
