Win For Whitehall Resources at Business Fives Colchester

Colchester played host to another brilliant Business Fives event on Friday 15 August, with a fantastic £3,240 raised for local and national charities.

A huge well done to every company involved, it was a brilliant collective effort. A special mention goes to our top fundraisers, Horizon Group, who raised an outstanding £780 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The tournament was packed with drama from the very first whistle. In the Champions League knockout stages, Sanctuary & Seven showed their intent early with a convincing 6–2 quarter-final win over JK Group, while The Clear Group edged past PCS Legal 2–0. PROMiXX impressed with a 4–1 win over MPL Claims to reach the semis, where Whitehall Resources, having earned a bye, were waiting.

The semi-finals didn’t disappoint. Sanctuary & Seven proved too strong for The Clear Group, sealing a 2–0 win, while Whitehall Resources edged out PROMiXX 4–3 in a thriller. That set up a fitting final where Whitehall Resources overcame Sanctuary & Seven 4–2 in another end-to-end battle, lifting the Colchester Title and securing a £350 donation for Service Dogs UK. Both teams now advance to represent Colchester at the National Final in Birmingham on Friday 24th October.

The Europa League also served up plenty of action. Horizon Parking’s 6–2 play-off win over Howden looked like it might kickstart a run, but their campaign was ended by JK Group in the semis. MPL Claims were in ruthless form, brushing aside PCS Legal 6–0 before seeing off JK Group 4–1 in the final. Their Europa League triumph secured a £150 donation for Colchester Foodbank and the final national final qualification spot.

The Europa Conference League brought its share of goals too, with Castons Consulting cruising into the final with a 6–1 win over Climbing Trees, while Carbon Numbers squeezed past Larking Gowen 4–3 in a nail-biter. The final was another close-fought encounter, but Castons Consulting edged it 3–2 to claim the trophy.

Individual honours rounded off the day in style. Nicola Saxham from Whitehall Resources was named female player of the tournament, while Reece Golding of Sanctuary Personnel bagged the top goal scorer award with an incredible 14 goals. Kely Sharber of Seven Resourcing took home the golden glove for his commanding displays in goal, and Callum Harrison of Whitehall Resources was named player of the match in the Champions League final for his outstanding performance.

The day was made even more special with a guest appearance from former Colchester United and Ipswich Town striker Freddie Sears, who shared stories from his playing career and presented the awards.

All in all, it was a brilliant day of football, fundraising, and fun in Colchester and a perfect warm-up for our return to the city in Winter.
